No major changes, just “world expansion”.

Potential mild spoilers for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 follow…
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Parts 1 and 2 will differ somewhat from the book upon which they are based. But according to director
Francis Lawrence, there won’t be any major departures.
Instead, he says, the movies will showcase scenes that could have taken place out of sight during the events of the book. The idea sounds similar to some of the alterations made in HBO's Game of Thrones series.
Lawrence, who is helming both parts of Mockingjay after his success on Catching Fire, spoke with
EW.com about what fans could expect of the movies’ scope: “There’s definitely some battles. There’s some of the first glimpses of real war in this movie. And the scale gets quite big.” Lawrence declined to say how the final two movies were broken up. He would only say that they have “two different, very distinct stories.”
Lawrence also spoke about series newcomer Julianne Moore as rebel President Coin, a character that has been expanded significantly for the films. Said Lawrence, “What’s interesting is although she’s a huge character in Mockingjay the book, there’s actually very little of her in it.” Lawrence promises there will be more President Coin in the films, which will allow for more development.
Finally, no Hunger Games conversation is complete without a discussion of the love triangle surrounding young Katniss Everdeen, played by
Jennifer Lawrence. The director says that after competing in two brutal Games, Katniss is more damaged, confused and angry than ever. And now that Katniss is separated from Peeta, “Obviously he becomes an objective for her, but Gale is right there, so that’s always a tricky situation.” Love the one you’re with, Katniss. Love the one you’re with.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opens November 21, 2014.
