Didn't see a thread for it (and doubt this is a Coli type of movie), but Giamatti really shines in this movie. As a matter of fact, he, along with Da'Vine Randolph and Dominic Sessa, did their thing. Sessa was pretty believable for a first-time role, and Randolph was easily the soul of the movie. She should get a Best Supporting Actress nod, IMO. I'm pretty much a Giamatti stan, so if his name is attached to anything, I'm there on day one. The movie was funny as shyt while also tugging repeatedly on the heartstrings. Easily 5/5 for me.

Saw this at a premiere in October, and I liked it. It's not perfect, I have read some scathing criticism and some glowing praise, and I am somewhere less on both those ends. It has some very formulaic writing. I loved the down to earth direction and scenes the movie created. The black character I can see being irritating, or worse to some. She kinda was and is. Great actress, great performance, but her role is probably one that needed a rewrite.

The third act where they went to Boston, the movie did not need, we knew enough about the characters

Pretty hard to find showings for this. I'm not going out at 9:45 on a Sunday to see this, they tripping. May as well wait for Hulu
