:russ: love your "historical" threads overload lately

We're getting old brehitos

But to answer 3MTV spamming Slim 24/7 and pushing hip hop's popularity into the stratosphere dominance is the most influential thing that i recall. But i know hes persona non grata around here so expect people to have their own views

Second would be JAY VS NAS, that will forever a thing, again you had to be there...

As far as the actual music, last few classics dropped before the quality of the art dropped into nonsense "vibes"

Thank bruh:pachaha:

We damn sure are lol

I been reminiscing a lot and looking back more than ever at a lot of old videos from the 90’s and 2000’s and just focusing on time and how fast that shyt moves

When you in it, it don’t feel like it’s moving fast but then you look back and it’s like “damn, this moment or period of time was just like a brief moment in time or a year or a coupe of years and the boom, a shift or huge shift”

Yup, all facts. Great posts too :myman:

I loved the little West Coast resurgence that happen after the success of Chronic 2001.

Tha Eastsidaz first 2 albums
Snoop Tha Last Meal
Xzibit Restless
Kurupt Streetz Iz... (dropped same say as 2001 but definitely had a light shined on it due to Kurupt being on 2001)
Lot of nice singles.... Chico N Coolwadda "High Come down", shade sheist "where i wanna be", etc.

50 Cent took over the game and he was the least talented rapper to achieve that status. It was that when things started to slip.

Let’s see

I remember the mixtapes that were circulating around that time

Beans vs Kiss
Jay vs Nas
Cam/Diplomats buzz
50’s reemergence and resurgence
The over influx of punchline raps
Rise of Lil Jon
Neptunes beats everywhere, and I do mean everywhere
Murda Inc/Ja/Ashanti’s run
The underground and backpack emergence (There’s a distinction between the two IMO)
T.I.’s buzz leading up to Trap Muzik
The back to back Wu albums (W and Iron Flag)
Deaths of Jam Master Jay, Aaliyah, and Left Eye
Kanye transition to becoming an artist
Jay’s retirement run
Scarface getting 5 mics from the Source
Kiss and Styles P solo albums
Napster
