Its Shyamalan's take on the 50's B Movie genre. He was going for something along the lines of 'The Blob' or 'Invasion Of The Body Snatchers'. Shyamalan knew what he was doing, he just didn't let the average viewer in on the joke.

Not that its an amazing film, but a lot of the hate for it is based on people thinking that its supposed to be entirely serious.
That's M. Knights fault. He wanted a gory Rated R 50s B movie? He fukked up with the tone and delivery if that's what he wanted to do.

Yeah the execution was definitely poor. Weirdly it was the studio that said make it R rated, I guess they thought the B movie angle wouldn't sell. M Knight said the reason why it failed was the inconsistent tone.

I vividly remember the trailers and tv spots pushing it was his first R rated movie. Trying to get the horror audience intrigued.

A movie about committing suicide wouldn't work as a B movie anyway. It was just a shytty idea. The initial ominous tone was the best part until you realize the movie was just plain bad.

Every statement Mark makes in the movie has a question mark at the end of it. He has a permanent look on his face like hes smelling a fart

When he was talkin to the class, "guyssss why dont you care about the bees?" All whiney like :russ:
Fam when the lady on the phone with her daughter and she says everybody is dead outside and this nikka bust out what do you mean everybody’s dead? :mjlol:
