a few years ago, when the Panthers made their last big playoff push with Delhomme and got stomped by the Falcons in the NFC Divisional game (i think), Steve Smith was at his most impressive. He will go down in history as one of the most underrated receivers in this era. The man had to overcome the likes of Chris Wenke, Rodney Pete, Jake Delhomme, David Carr, Vinny Testevarde, and Jimmy Clausen being his QB in his prime, but yet still found a way to drop big numbers. He now has a solid QB in Cam, but it is coming at the back end of his career. Put Smitty in his prime with any top 5 QB in the league now and this question wouldn't even be up for debate.
Just imagine the numbers he would put up if he had Peyton, Brady, or Rodgers as his QB from 2002-2010

whenever i was able to watch a Panthers game that season, Smith would somehow be able to get 5-10 yards of separation from ANYBODY in the secondary. they were double-teaming and bracketing him, but he'd catch the ball and there would be nobody around him. i wish he had Cam or just any decent QB a little earlier in his career.

It's also rare a player plays his whole career for 1 team, which is what Smith will probably do even though he's had trash 3rd string Qbs his whole career til now
