Here’s an overall list of places I like or have been to or were recommended to me
Just posting names. I’ll edit with details in a bit.
Peruvian
- Las Brasas - Downtown decatur. Dope food anf dope drinks
- Mambo Jumbo Cafe - Cuban/Peruvian fusion. Good ceviche and even better masas de puerco. For my Haitians, masas de puerco is same as grio
- Sabor Inka - Dope food. Been a while since i been.
Haitian
Ole restaurant - Used to be my spot. I feel like the food is no longer as good and since they dont do live music anymore the vibe aint the same. I still go every other weekend at least
Coconut grill - Was probably the best vibe among all caribbean restaurants in the ATL area..But it was far as fukk (Duluth area). The principal owner has since moved out of state and relocated his business. One of the former partners there is the same person who opened Rock Steady in midtown
Rock Steady - Was advertised as aa Caribbean restaurant early on but neither haitians or caribbean claim it. THey just have a few caribbean stuff (Haitian and Jamaican stuff like Grio and bannann peze and piklis etc) on the menu. The spot is dope. THe vibe is dope. Mostly African American crowd so dont go there expecting a caribbean vibe.
Spice house - Haitian-ish. Similar to Rock Steady but not as dope a vibe and food not as good
Cafe Olange - I havent been and heard mixed reviews.
iLounge - In Marietta area. Cool little spot. Nothing special about it but i fukks with them
West African
- KokoRico - Ivorian. Dope food and dop francophone african vibe. I know one of the partners that own it. Older Ivorian breh named Marcelin who ran a maquis out of his house in Doraville. Edit: This place has since closed. They relocated to the "Tropical Cuisine spot listed below
- Ike’s café and grill - Probably dopest west african spot in the ATL area. It's just a bit of a drive
- Le nouveau maquis - Ivorian food. One of my new favs. I've only dined in once. usually do take out. Love the food.
- 10 degree south - Not quite west but it's South African cuisine. But it's very...WHITE.
- Mina’s kitchen - I used to love that place. I just found out last week that they closed/moved. I used to love their Suya
- Meskel - Ethiopian spot in stone mountain. Very authentic. Rarely see non-ethiopians int here.
- Bole - East African. If you want authentic ethiopian this is your spot. I like it better than Desta. Enough said.
- Tropical Cuisine - THis is the new KokoRico. I felt like their food wasnt as good as KokoRico but since they just opened 3 weeks ago so i'll give them another chance
Cuban
- Papis - My favorite cuban spot back in the days but it aint the same no more.
- Cuban diner - I havent been but this snobbish brazilian chick i was trying to fukk swears by it. I have to see for myself.
Breakfast/brunch
- Folk Art
- Flying biscuit
- Please help me expand my brinch options.
Seafood
- Baltimore Crabs - One of my favorite places to eat at but i just hate that it's a little far from everything I fukks with. I just dont know nor hang out in Cascade like that. Black owned and well ran restaurant where you can go chill and enjoy the vibe and the people. TRY THIS PLACE. I met Keisha Lance Bottoms there once.
- Juicy Crab - Seems like it's the default seafood place for most people in ATL. I only go to the Smyrna one. Need to check out the others. It's good enough for me but some think it's great and others think it's awful
- Spondivitz - MY personal default place for crab legs and shrimp boils.
Yet To try but will soon
- The Consulate
- Virgil's Gullah kitchen
- Noble Fin
- Piassa
Fried Chicken spots recommended to me but have yet to try
- K & K
- Marietta Daily or Local
- Hottie Bs - Edit: I have since tried this my bad. It's okay. I still prefer Gus's
