Shootout with the police and national guard. Incident man got killed
Louisville Police Chief Steve Conrad confirmed the shooting happened around 12:15 a.m. in the parking lot of Dino's Food Mart, located at 26th and Broadway.
He said LMPD and the National Guard were breaking up a large group there when someone fired a shot at them. Law enforcement then returned fire.
Conrad said one person was killed. It's unclear if that person was the one who fired at officers.
Police said they have several persons of interest who are currently being interviewed.
“It’s very clear that many people do not trust the police. That is an issue we’re going to work on and work through," Conrad said during an early morning news conference.
He did not take any questions and expects to have more information later Monday.
Gov. Andy Beshear released the following statement.
"Last night at around 12 a.m., it is our understanding that the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) and the Kentucky National Guard were dispatched to 26th and Broadway. While working to disperse a crowd, LMPD and the Kentucky National Guard were fired upon. LMPD and the Kentucky National Guard returned fire resulting in a death. Given the seriousness of the situation, I have authorized the Kentucky State Police to independently investigate the event.”
There was a curfew in effect Sunday night at 9 p.m. in Louisville. This was an attempt by the mayor to settle unrest that has gone on for several days now in the city over the Breonna Taylor case and others causing protests and riots across the country.
So basically they fired into a fukking crowd?!
