Gen z can’t find jobs or afford to live on their own for the most part, but we are living in better times now as opposed to when you could send your kid to college just by working at the DMV or the post office…. Real black communities where everyone knew each other and looked after one another. Solid paying factory jobs were still a thing and the tech boom was in its infancy and offered a lot of opportunities to young minorities and college tuition was exponentially cheaper. Not sure how old you are, but no one had a bleak outlook coming up in the 80s…. Matter of fact, we saw America as our oyster….. Now you got college grads with stem degrees who can’t afford to buy a crib in a lot of cities….
You make some great points but there was def a bleak outlook about life beyond the 80s.

90s came along and switched perspectives.

Tech partly sucks now because there was a covid hiring craze and that herd is in the process of getting the thinning it badly needs.

Folks keep blaming AI. It has blame but not like folks are thinking. Most hr folks are using it to screen apps because applying online is so easy they get a mountain of apps. So they throw in a certain criteria only they know and it filters for them. The issue with this is you could be a kick ass candidate and your shyt gets thrown out before anybody sees you even applied. This actually goes beyond tech applications and is a problem.

He is. People in the 70s 80s 90s had it easier with housing .

Housing went up like 13 x 15 times the cost compared to actual wage growth.

My pops with a second grade education bought a house in Los Angeles off a lil more than min wage salary . Paid like 15k for a house .

We've talked about this and he says yeah if he is was young at this age he wouldn't have been able to buy a house at his wage .

Tech is cool but doesn't necessarily mean everything is better

Newer gens don't have as much as wealth and are much poorer compared to they parents. It's been documented
Way fewer of them can actually afford a house
Minimum wage would be 64$ an hour if it kept up with price inflation after the 70's (It was keeping up with it until Regan).

Please stop believing that we are only 14% of this country. It's literally impossible to maintain the same population rate for 50 years. They make us look like less of the country because it benefits them. We are more close to 25% and id bet any nikka on this site on that.

You think people that make maps that make Africa look smaller than white nations would be honest about black population.

We are the ones to hate. We will be the ones that everyone chooses to hate until we start dropping people who want to push these agendas.

YOU DONT ACCOMPLISH shyt WITHOUT SOME LEVEL OF FORCE.

I WANHA SEE MORE OF YOU nikkaS TALKING ABOUT BEATING THE BREAKS OFF THESE PEOPLE.

ITS NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE DOING IT AND I FEEL LIKE IF I RISK IT ALL TO KNOCK OUT A Joe Manchin or a Mike Johnson, nikkas would be scared to protest at the jail I'm in.

As someone who grew up in the 80s it was harder on the front end but the paths to success were more wide open or at the least you had a fair chance to succeed if you got you stayed focused.

I feel like today is the reverse easier on the front end but the opportunities are more limited, but I can only speak to my experience.
So you think corporate America and other American institutions/ business structures are more racist now than in the 80’s?

There's literally nothing positive to look forward in this world it seems. I'm not talking about shyt to look forward to in our own personal lives. I mean things at large. The direction this world and this country is going is really not good yall. From America being ruled by Aparthied linked oligarchs, climate change, and A.I. (unless it’s used for good. But I see it just being another tool for the ruling elite). Prove me wrong.
Go outside, watch the stars, read a book, get some p*ssy.

Companies were always racist but the difference is the diversity initiatives were at least legit. My uncle got a job at Toshiba as a sales rep by the end of the 80s he worked his way up to being middle management and was able to put all of his children through college. That's much harder to do now. So now it's a melange of racism and corporate greed same position maybe you max out as lead sales rep.

Now when I graduated high school in 91 and then college I was able to get into MTV right when hip-hop was becoming big but there was also a push to get more color into the ranks. So at least with diligence and hard work you had a decent shot.

Of course you can... but that is a miniscule piece of a very nuanced subject.
….ok

:yeshrug:

How was your experience buying a house or working a corporate job/starting your own business in the 80’s?

Was your community thriving in the 80’s? What city were you in?

You mean, to grift and to scam people. :beli:
You exchange time and life for currency with no intrinsic value, a system where you get paid a fraction of what you generate as a worker,
since when has capitalism not been a scam?
