The minute Geoff johns was said to be one of the people in charge flashpoint became a focal point because it was a story he wrote and he's in love with his own work to the point he will push above anyone elses.

DC needs to take a 5 year Hiatus from making live action movies and start fresh again
That would be really dumb.
Don't make a sequel to wonder woman? Don't make a batman film? Don't capitalize on Harley quinn?
They'd be leaving hundreds of millions on the table.
I think they're trying to serve both masters.
Take advantage of the money you hinted at that's out there to be made (WW2, solo Batman) but also distance themselves from JL and the connected universe until a better foundation's built. Basically a soft reboot without the 5 year hiatus.
