In general they possess many qualities of a championship caliber team.Carolina had better records the last two seasons but I think this is their best team. They finally got Aho a legit front line running mate.
@murksiderock this is the team that has a chance to bring a title to NC. It's lining up for them to play the Rangers in the second round, which could be an amazing series.
I'm following them, as you know I'm not well educated on hockey or much more than a casual fan. But people are hype about em as usual, everybody white here loves em. One of my coworkers though, earlier this week said "they gonna choke in the playoffs as usual", he's a long time Caniac ...Carolina had better records the last two seasons but I think this is their best team. In general they possess many qualities of a championship caliber team.
They are Disciplined
They are Elite defensively
They have Great defensive defensemen
They have Speed everywhere in their lineup
Elite puck possession/puck control team
Good Puckmovers on defense
they are smart
They are Well coached
They skate hard, work hard and play at a intense and aggressive pace (their forechecking and cycling game is insane)
They are Physical enough(grit and agressive physicality is not part of their game or team identity but they ok in that department)
They have Average goaltending (but the team up front is so good defensively it doesn’t matter)
Their problems were : lack of offense, not much offense from the backend(defense) and injuries to key forward players. Last year, svechnikov was hurt late in the regular season and didn’t play in the playoffs.
They just needed offensive weapons And depth. The additions of Guentzel and Kuznetsov at the deadline will help them in the playoffs.
Brind’amour was never outcoached. Coaching and team preparation were not factors in their playoff eliminations. They lost because of youth/lack of experience, injuries, bad special teams(power play and penalty killing) inferior goaltending performances, roster deficiencies and running into better/superior/talented/more experienced veteran teamsI'm following them, as you know I'm not well educated on hockey or much more than a casual fan. For someone like me who casually supports em, I love the energy the city gives them. Between State this postseason, Cole's Dreamville has had pop up shops across town for over a week and the festival is this weekend, and the Canes, spring is always really dope to be in Raleigh!
Question, if the Canes do fall short of the cup, what would yall guess the reason is? And in recent years what caused their losses in the playoffs, does Brind A'mour get outcoached or do we just run into better teams?
Pittsburgh just held off a 6 on 4 power play for the last 1:40 of the game & Tampa had to get off like 10 shots just now. Incredible defense & will to win.
The East wild card is so shytty* that it wouldn’t surprise me if Pittsburgh snuck in
Rod is a great coach. The issue has been lack of firepower. They've overachieved, imo. They finally pushed some chips in and added a real difference maker in Jake Guentzel. They also got Kuznetsov, who was really good when Washington won it all six years ago. He hasn't been the same since but he might raise his play in a better situation like Carolina.I'm following them, as you know I'm not well educated on hockey or much more than a casual fan. Penguins somehow someway are in the 8 spot
Pittsburgh Penguins (rust belt western Pennsylvania )
Boston Celtics (east coast/new england)
San Francisco 49ers (west coast/northern california/the bay)
Atlanta Braves(Deep South Georgia)
You have a unusual, weird and unlikely assortment/combination/mixture of favorite professional sports teams
i could break it down but it would take a while
