A lot of people thought the country shipping the goods pay more. that makes absolutely zero sense. If a company in China is shipping 1000 pieces of product a week, who are the paying? So a company in China is going to wire money to the US government. Even if you don't know what a tariff is, people can't even let common sense take over.

If you seriously believe trump won this election on prices off eggs or food at the grocery shops and not pure racism and bigotry then one is being naive. Trump supporters would still support the man if the tariffs meant that all their wages will be slash in half and inflation will triple the current rate, it was never about economics, they see trump as their white supremacist enforcer, to put black people back in line and in their place and to deport every non white immigrant in the country. I don't understand the point of this thread.

Tariffs are a part of an isolationist policy, increasing them decreases competition and allows more domestic companies to produce goods and services.

The goal is to ship out cheap labor (illegal immigrants) and tax cheap imports in order to stimulate the domestic workforce. It will also greatly disadvantage countries whose economies are heavily dependent on exports.

I will give as little money to American made shyt as possible. And I suspect other countries will just do the same. China can replace American electric cars.

Hardly anything in Walmart and Lowe's is made in America, mostly China or Vietnam or Thailand. These days if you buy American made it's likely from a small company trying to give you some shyt that works for a long time and has quality, I try not buying things made in China best I can.

A lot of people I think wanted permission to vote for Trump.

Our infrastructure can't touch Chinas at all. I get trying to sure our shyt up at some point which is the only logical reasoning behind deterring imports with tariffs. It's gonna be a few painful lifetimes before any of this helps the everyday consumer though. And that's with Trump tariffs being left untouched for that long which we know they wont.

This is 2024 not 1974. Even if they banned imports, it would take at least a decade or more for the country to adjust and even then it still wouldn't be the same.

Not to mention, their loss will be another countries gain. This is a GLOBAL economy. other industries will be indirectly affected. It's one thing to open pandoras box, then close it a few years later. But you can't close pandoras box after leaving it open for decades.
It sounds good on paper, but in reality, what they are trying to do simply won't work. Especially in a capitalist, consumerist, free market economy like the U.S.

I did mail in voting but I look up candidates and what they offer and are saying and I definitely understand what tariffs are
