Be honest..metro and them heard tunechi rap over that beat
And than they probably did some research after to see the other times it’s been used
I'll agree. We was heavy on the bass scene in the early 90s . Magic Mike ,dj fury, mcadeThis 100% was based off Rodney O & Joe Cooley cause that was just as huge down South ass it was the West Coast cause of the low rider truck bass era that ran the South at the time.
Just like everything DJ Magic Mike put out back then.

well that was the original, and the song E-40 song clearly sampled, but please explain the TITLE, the E-40 SHOUT, and the ADLIBS..."like that" was inspired by 40This 100% was based off Rodney O & Joe Cooley cause that was just as huge down South ass it was the West Coast cause of the low rider truck bass era that ran the South at the time.

is somewhat reasonable...that metro made the beat on other pretenses, but KENDRICK knows the song from 40, and titled it what they did and shouted 40Yup I think that's how it happened. And since he's from the west coast Kendrick was gonna do what he did regardless, with the 40 Water reference. Pretty cool collab and cultural exchange between the south and west coast.
I definitely think Kendrick was giving an ode to 40 but I'm saying the idea to even use this beat by a Southern nikka based off Rodney O & Joe Cooley.well that was the original, and the song E-40 song clearly sampled, but please explain the TITLE, the E-40 SHOUT, and the ADLIBS..."like that" was inspired by 40
