I used to love Smart Guy. But I wouldn't consider it in the top five greatest black sitcoms. I don't think it lasted more than two or three seasons even. Maybe with some longevity it might've. I'll group it in the tier with shows like hanging with Mr Cooper and Steve Harvey. Those school related shows weren't as full of substance like the family shows such as the Cosby show, family matters, Martin, or even the classics like the jeffersons and sanford and son. Smart Guy was a good show but i wouldn't place it among the greats.

Smart Guy lasted I think 4 seasons. I consider it being on that 2nd Tier of Classic Black TV like Jamie Foxx, where they are classic but they arent Martin or Fresh Prince level where they had cultural impacts.

Yeah I agree with it being on that jamie foxx tier. Forgot about that one. Thing about smart guy is that it didn't develop much of a career for anyone that i know of. Not like Jamie Foxx on his show, will Smith on fresh Prince, Steve Harvey on his show, etc. I haven't heard any of the smart guy characters lately. Last I saw was Yvette on Are we there yet with Terry crews.

Family Matters aged TERRIBLY. Looking back I think Steve became a cultural icon to America more so than Black people.
I think they just tried doing too much and jumped the shark. It was obvious him and Laura were gonna end up together but they just dragged things too long and started coming up with ideas that were unnecessary. Plus the character change for Harriet didn't help. It usually never does.
