Real talk if a streaming service snatched up and did streaming for a lot of the old black shows like Hanging with mr. Cooper, smart guy, martin, fresh Prince, wayans bros, Steve Harvey, E.B.H.C., living single, diff. World, etc Id give them my money every month faithfully :ehh:

Hulu may be trending in that direction. Right now everything is dispersed. Amazon has Cosby and a different world. Hulu has cooper and family matters cause they’re part of the TGIF deal and they’ll have living single. So if Hulu ever gets Cosby and a different world back plus some other stuff it may be the spot

Martin and Wayans Bros would be the clincher for me. One of the main reasons I miss MTV2 so much

Yeah, I been seeing Living Single in syndication for years
Low key this was basically an ongoing chick flick that you could still watch without feeling :dame:

They tried to recreate it with crap like Girlfriends and Half & Half, but they were definitely more girly and gay

It was so important to show Kyle and Overton on screen weekly. Showing two strong, yet completely different (blue vs. white collar) good black men was the perfect way to compliment the four strong, yet completely different black women they portrayed.

Having those 6 people together made it easy for both sexes to embrace the show, even if it could be said that it targeted women.

Started it again last night. The first season is so weird compared to 2&3

I'm 4 eps deep into my rewatch (after a long time)

So far I feel like it's hitting on all cylinders. It's rare that a show gets into its stride so quickly, especially a comedy.

What do you think? What's different about 1 that is/isn't in 2 & 3?

Both Girlfriends and Half&Half are dope.

Half & Half actually takes place in the same “universe” as Living Single

1 is slower. Just from a dialogue standpoint. It’s still hilarious but season 2 was lighting in a bottle. They found their groove dialogue wise while also incorporating the more abstract shyt. I watched the pilot and the chick episode (Undrea:russ:) and it took a while to remember the dialogue wasn’t as quick in season 1

:ehh:

Maybe since I'm binging it now when I get to S2 I'll see the stark difference in the pace of the dialogue. You're right, thinking back I do remember it being quicker.

I was just surprised at how sharp the dialogue was so quickly. Most shows kinda tip-toe around the style of jokes, references etc. they want to get to in the first half of the first season so as to not alienate a "general audience", but watching the first 4 in a bunch I was happy to see how quickly (post pilot) they said "fukk it, this is the kinda show we're gonna be, strap in folks!"

I said in the other thread that it was Top 5-10 of the recent comedies, but based on the first 4 and remembering that it gets better, this shyt might legit be in my Top 5 comedies period.

Great news, Hulu is really stepping up their game. They added Family Matters and Hangin with Mr. Cooper a month or so ago too.

Hulu low key has a better catalog than Amazon and Netflix keeps on shedding Disney/Fox produced shows. Still don't understand why it only has 12 million subscribers compared to Netflix with 50+ million.

Maybe A Different World but I don't think people will let Hulu breathe if they bring back Cosby

Like I said in the thread (and not to detail this one) next to the simpsons it’s my favorite comedy of all time

Depends. If they do it under the cover of night like amazon did no one will trip :russ: amazon did that shyt on the low. All Hulu has to do is not announce it. And their search function is terrible enough as is you’ll have to dig deep to find it. My one complaint about Hulu (search) ironically is the one thing that could allow Cosby to be on their site
