After taking brutal beatings like that, I'm not sure JDS will be the same.

I watched the Diego/Gilbert fight again earlier and its diffently not the greatest fight ever. Rogan was reaching when he said that.

JDS doesn't need to retire just stay as far away from Cain as possible for the foreseeable future, and possibly the rest of his career. Junior is the second best HW in the division but I'm very interested in seeing how he does when he comes back. Two brutal beatings in less than a year had to have taken something out of him.

Poor JDS. He was eating punches to the head and not falling. Lets pray for his brain.

Article says he has no serious injuries.

According to his manager, Anca Cláudia Guedes, JDS remembers nothing after the knockdown in the third: "He went to autopilot mode after that strike, he doesn't know what happened. We've told him now, but he thought he had been knocked out in the third and the fight ended there. He had no idea he made it into the fifth round or even that he gave an interview in the end".

Looking calm, he said that bigger than the pain from the wounds is the pain he is feeling in his heart. "I'm feeling well now. I came to the hospital just to get some stitches in the cut I got. The pain is just in my heart for not having a good performance. Now I gotta go back to the gym and train even more, dedicate myself more to come back stronger than ever and maybe someday fight for the belt again. If God wants it, I'll be able to honor the support of all who believe in me".

I love Junior, but that fight shoulda been stopped. He was clearly out on his feet. C'mon Herb.

That being said, Cain is kinda lucky he didn't get the fight DQ'd for a spike. I know he didn't mean to do it, and he was just trying to get out of Junior's hold, but he flipped him right over onto the top of his head.

"Fouls
As set out by the Association of Boxing Commissions:

  • Spiking an opponent to the canvas on his or her head or neck (see Piledriver)"

It would be in the same territory as when Jones did the spinning elbow on Hamil. Not at all intentional, but a foul none the less. It would have been a shame, but I can see it happening.

Cain didn't spike him. Junior grabbed his head in some weird choke attempt and in the scramble just face planted. Like oyhers have witnessed, he was zombie status after the 3rd. Fight should have been stopped sooner

^^^^He honestly should take a year off and recharge. That shyt sounds really fukked up about him not remembering anything past the third

right, dude isn't even 30 yet is he? that's scary to read. I hope his people sit him out for a bit to retool and relax, fights like these last 2 Cain fights shorten careers and more importantly well-being

I know it wasn't intentional. But he turned, pulled Junior down, and right onto the top of his head.

I'm not saying that I think it should have been called a DQ, and as I said at the start of the post, I thought it should have been called way earlier than that, I'm just saying its lucky it wasn't called that way.

Intent matters when judging fouls like that in MMA, JDS put himself in that position by trying to hold a choke
