I haven't seen anyone pushing Tesla or praising Elon musk, but maybe it's because I'm not around "conservative" black people.

One thing that really irritates me is people calling him a genius. He didn't invent shyt, he's a tech investor that puts money in the pockets of people who DO invent shyt. This a$$hole never corrects anyone when they say Tesla or spacex is something he made. He's a narcissist so of course an ideology that tells him he's a descendent of "great" people, he will embrace it wholeheartedly because he's someone who doesn't actually make anything. He takes the credit and treats the people who make his wealth possible with contempt.

He's easily one of the worst people alive right now. His wealth needs to be liquidated and he needs to be deplatformed.

I agree with all of this but I don’t know any black people who bring him up in conversation. Nobody in my circle focuses on this guy the way the coli does.

Independent journalism is the future. I'm already paying for a couple of services/aggregators for it. Most of the major outlets and papers are just conglomerates of various white billionaires.

I seriously believe journalisms death has been hastened by wealth/income inequality. when people are struggling to get by paying for the news seems like a luxury. I think if people earned a living wage, we'd see a resurgence in journalism being better financially supported.

Nah, I used to work in media. There's been a targeted, surreptitious effort to undermine journalism in the US for a while now.

Rodger Ailes and the FOX project started the total erosion of the left's faith in the media. Then the pizzagate/gamergate scandals eroded the right wing's faith in the media. Couple that with minorities and their general distrust for media depictions of their communities and you've got a situation in which no one has any respect or faith in the one cornerstone of a free society that ACTUALLY can hold people to account (outside of a fair legal system). The Media.

Toss in the complete consolidation of local media and death of nearly 1000+ newspapers nation wide and you've got Twitter and Telegram being more respected sources than the LA Times.

For most people news is STILL free. Broadcast news is still at 6pm and 11pm like it has been for two/three generations. NPR is still fukking free in every state in the nation. Online news is virtually available for everyone, not even counting the paywalled stuff. It's the fact that people don't see value in it. You can't get people to deny the very things happening in front of their faces if they aren't willfully deciding not to see it.

In today's world the only excuse for "not knowing" is because you don't want to know or don't care to know. That's got nothing to do with economics really. People seemed to be mightily informed about Gaza/Israel but couldn't name their fukking state rep or the county Sherriff.
