The disconnect between Nuggets GM Calvin Booth and HC Michael Malone cost Denver’s back to back championship run

Was Denver’s front office and coaching staff disconnected?

Calvin got the right idea with the "better to try and win 3 out of 6" thinking. To much parity in todays nba for anyone to be going back to back for awhile.
I disagree cause he's thinking 4 out of 6 from when they won their first chip
You gotta remember this team was ready for contention after they got Aaron Gordon back in 2021, that was when Joker won his first MVP.
Jamal tore his ACL soon after, basically sunk any real chance they had to compete that year
The next year Jamal doesn't play at all and MPJ goes down so that's another year gone
Won in 2023
Lost in 2024
That's 4 years already

Relying on such a young bench was a risk and it blew up in their face. There's also no guarantee the guys they took actually get any better. None of them could shoot in the playoffs and it was a huge detriment

It is definitely great thinking if 1-2 of Jokic Murray Porter Gordon were on the wrong side of 30. In the 32-33 age range. But the oldest is Jokic and Gordon at 28. Only KCP is 30+ out of the starters. Wouldnt be surprised if Booth's overall idea involved getting the draftees developed ASAP and then moving one of maybe even both of Porter and Gordon on down the line.

No jumpshot. No minutes.

Development doesn't happen on good to great teams. So these GMs hoping to squeeze 15mpg outta prospects who are behind dudes making 25m and up just ain't happening.
The new CBA put pressure to get prospects in who don’t cost much money on these rookie deals while you’re in the tax trying to contend.

yup.

Those youngins are gonna have to help you now. Either that or hope you get a squad or vets on vet mins. Part of the success of the Nuggets came from getting apparently $22 mil of value from Bruce Brown at $5 mil or whatever he signed.

Look at the remaining teams and the common bond is they're getting value from either rookie deal guys or distressed assets for the low.

Boston's getting it out of Pritchard. Derrick White at $18 mil is a steal. Sam Hauser.

Indiana. The Siakam trade obviously was a big trade, but Nesmith, Nembhard, Toppin, McConnell, value so great they don't even miss Mathurin.

Dallas, got Gafford, Washington, Dante FN Exum. They hit on Lively. Those things mean something.

the 2nd apron makes it vital for those 2nd rounders you don't think much of to pan out, so perhaps instead of tryna hit a home run, get a guy you can plug and play.
