i know breh

i was gonna make a thread on directors with most replay value.

i always watch spielbergs best more than anyone elses
Most of Spielberg's movies that I have are too "Summer Hollywood" to have good replay value, whereas I can watch Scorsese's films over and over.

Not really. Never was big on ET, Indiana Jones series is good but I watched them recently (I have the box set) and realized how formulaic they are. JP, I like dinosaurs and think it still looks good to this day, but I still can't get myself to watch it at the same frequency as I watch Martin Scorsese films

Jaws can get repeat showings though.

So this thread may have been done before so I apologize if it has but I just got around to watching Infernal Affairs (gimme my late pass, my b) and The Departed is one of my fav flicks and definitely my favorite of that year so it was a weird watch because I'm used to it rather than the original but which is better? To me, The Departed is better because it allows for more nuance, Jack's villain is much better than his counterpart, and as I found out, it's a combination of all three movies in the trilogy so it tells a fuller story. Also, I like the idea of the cop in charge of the undercover officers being split into two characters (Queenan/ Dignam)

This was the dumbest shyt ever though. In Infernal Affairs, when they kill off Wong, it means Chen is completely on his own and cut off entirely from the police force. He has no one to turn to so all he can do is what he does.

In The Departed, when Queenan dies, that entire scenario of desperateness vaporizes because Dignam is still there. Oh wait, let's have Alec Baldwin's character put Dignam on leave without retracting his mole first for no fukking reason. And even then, why doesn't Dignam contact Costigan anway? He just leaves him out there on the streets while he shops for the perfect execution outfit? The splitting of that character causes so many ridiculous gaps of logic it's embarrassing. I also hate how clumsily they put in the scene with the cast on his arm. It felt like they changed that entire scenario scene just for the sake of it without it actually fitting into the story.

So on a screenplay level, I have some major issues with the adaptation (I have no gripes with Scorsese's direction) and I never understood for the life of me why William Monahan got awarded for it. Yeah, it features some great dialog and the transition from a Hong Kong crime flick to a movie that breathes Boston was well-done, but every single story change (I just thought of another, both of them coincidentally getting into it with Vera Farmiga) was for the worse.
