I remember magic johnson came out a few years ago & said around the time he allegedly caught HIV he was sleeping with 300 to 500 PEOPLE a year. He never specified WOMEN. Of course I see more new HIV cases in men but I also see it's very high in black & latino women, I think it's because of down low brothas & dudes that were sleeping with men in prison & came home to sleeping with women.
Also there are PO meds like trizivir & truvada but what a lot of people don't realize about HIV is 1 common cold can turn into pneumonia & your CD4 counts drop and you can go from hiv to full blown aids very quick. I had a 68 yr old patient today admitted to the hospital getting IV retrovir because his hiv is damaging his liver & his body is transforming to aids. I just think some people have this misconception that you can live with HIV forever "because of magic"...
The disease leaves your body so susceptible other bad illnesses like kidney failure,you have 24 yr old people on dialysis because the hiv meds are so powerful that it's causing their kidneys & liver to fail. Also it messes up their teeth & usually leads to all kinds of other deadly health problems that's too much to get into.
Also I hear people all the time say "how can magic have this long & still be healthy". Magic is a hundred millionaire & has access to the best docs in the world, also some people have different stages of the disease, magic was a top athlete before he caught it so his body is suppressing it but usually between year 10-15 is when most people's body start to break down & have problems from my experience but magic is an exception to the rule but there aren't a lot.
