Andre opened the door for cross dressing in hip hop, not Kanye
What Kanye DID do was help steer rap away from the streets
But he ain't kill the gangsta rapper. Gangsta rap was already on its way out. 50 in 2007 wasn't no gangsta rapper

:mjlol:

Isn't trap rap gangster rap? They talking about some gangster shyt. Trap shyt is G shyt

but oh ya, a lot of these trap rappers act and dress like fakkits, so its hard to remember they actually are gangster rappers

and the only people who enjoy articles like this are cacs who idolize soft rappers. A cac writing an article about how he saw Ye perform at some hipster party and somehow this is vital hip hop journalism:yeshrug:

When they (we) say gangsta rap, its not the content they're referring to, its the image.

That overtly aggressive, macho, testosterone fueled imagery that 50 embodied at the time.

Think about the biggest names in rap since 07; they're either lightskinned ladies men, introverted intellectual short guys, flamboyant fashionista skinny nikkaz or socially akward, neorotic type udes.

Saying that, though, I do think that the Internet had a huge hand in cultivating the scene that we see to day.

Gangsta rap post 2000 was a parody. Over exaggerated back stories, super thugs that were mean mugging 24/7, black folk that were on that KKK shyt :mjpls: , gun talk like Rambo, and so on. They even shytted on Nas for growing up and being on that pro black shyt. This is also the era where despite Talib Kweli and Mos Def had gold selling albums, that "kufi" shyt was laughed upon. Where many hoes didn't look at you if you didn't have a criminal record and spitting cliche game like "hey ma".

Ye had to save the genre from excess hypermasculine bullshyt. If not, there would have been many 40+ year old rappers making uninspired gangsta music in 2015.
