This thread is hilarious. Cats intentionally going outta their way to skip over Dan's playoff performances...

Dudes so married to this "Dan had no backfield" mantra that they are skipping over multiple playoff games his backfield popped for him 😆...

Dudes in here protecting this guy with their lives, not mentioning the 4 straight missed playoffs...

This is what I'm talking about, guys have sliding criteria in how they evaluate these players...

He threw too many interceptions. Doesn’t matter how nice your arm is or how many dimes you throw, if you are giving the ball back to the other team you are going to struggle. 4 of his first 7 seasons he threw over 20 interceptions. 3 of those seasons were up there with the best of all-time but he never reached those heights again.

He was never in the NFL bottom half of ints percentage per season, staying around 3.7%.

Of COURSE he threw more ints because he threw the ball more than anyone.

Try again!

No, it's not a guarantee.

Did you guys actually watch every Patriots playoff game? Or did you just look at the numbers?

For all of our good defenses... we still had individual playoff games here and there where they would be bad or okay at best, and Brady would have to be great or clutch to win.

They weren't shutting down every opponent and holding them to 3 points like that Rams super bowl.

Marino isn't doing a 28-3, Marino is coming back down from 14 points twice in the same game, Marino isn't coming back down 10 against Seattle, Marino isn't dropping 37 at Arrowhead.

Marino himself had a lot of playoff duds, even in games his defense played well, or where they give him a chance.
Its so funny how Brady stans bring up 28-3 like the Pats D didnt keep the #1 scoring offense to just 21 points all game. But Brady gets all the credit, right?

Pro Football Reference shows the adjusted stats compared to league averages at the time.

Only 2 out of 17 seasons was he throwing INTs at above the league average, 89’ and 99’. Marino also had the lowest sack rate 10 times.

QBs just threw more INTs before and had worse overall numbers. There was the big rule changes of 78’, then some more changes in the mid 90s, 04’, etc….Different offensive schemes as well.

You had to of been old enough to watch him play and also see how the Dolphins just let him down

Don Shula blew almost all the drafts after Marino

John Bosa
Eric Kumerow
Sammie Smith
Lorenzo Hampton

He made a great pick with Richmond Webb in 1990 but way too many misses
The game passed Don on but the dolphins were too loyal to him to fire him

That's how comebacks work :snoop:

Obviously your defense will play well

The point is that Brady is the only one that I've seen complete the comeback on the offensive end, in the postseason

You saying Brady gets all the credit is just a lame way to deflect. No one gives him all the credit

Stop. Everyone was on his nuts after being down that bad. His defense got ZERO credit for that game. They lose that game if the defense didnt allow only 21 points. Just another luxury Brady has had his whole career that get no credit for :russell:

That’s still not going to win championships. For instance Tom Brady never had an interception percentage over 2.9% his first year as a starter. And hasn’t had an interception % over 2.0 since 2009. In fact we always call Brett Favre a gunslinger who took a lot of ill advised risks but Marino was barely any better. Career 3.3 interception percentage for Favre compared to Marino’s 3%. It gets really ugly when it gets to the playoffs. 32 tds to 24 interceptions.

Dan Marino was also 4-14 and 0-3 in the playoffs vs the Buffalo Bills from 1985-1992. Their division rival. A team that would get clobbered by the NFC 3 out of their 4 SB appearances.
