Chicago
25.2 overnight ratings. In comparison, game 7 of the nba finals was 18.9 in June.
That was a horribly bad Finals though. One of the worst since Spurs/Cavs imo. Plus its baseball, basketball will always be Lil bro to baseball as baseball is Lil bro to football. Theres no equivalent in the NBA to a Cubs winning the World Series. Probably no team in any American sport is the equivalent. Even a historically bad team winning wouldnt eclipse a historically bad team thats also one of the Top 3 favorite teams with a 110 year drought. Theres nothing touching it. This is Chicago's most coveted championship. They'd trade every championship from the Bulls, Hawks and Bears in to have gotten this ONE. Never again in sports will there be something like this to a team. Maybe get close, but itll never be 100+yrs and itll never be to a team thats been as bad as the Cubs while also being one of the most popular.

The only championship that would rival the cubs ,would be a Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley cup championship.

They have never won a eastern conference finals since the NHL implemented 4 playoff rounds. They never won a ECF EVER.
They have not won the stanley cup since 1967. Back then in the NHL a team had to win 2 playoff rounds to win the stanley cup.
They have not been in the stanley cup since they won in 1967.
Biggest city in Canada, 4th biggest city in North America. top 10 media market in North America
Hockey is a religion there, like the Cubs/baseball is in chicago.
They missed the playoffs 9 out of the 10 last seasons.
The one time they made it, in the last 10 years, they choked a 4-1 lead in game 7, with 10 minutes to go. Then the other team scored in OVERTIME, to win 5-4.

Like the cubs championship this year is the most coveted and cherished of the city, it means so much for the city, and makes them forget about the rest of the titles won by hawks, bulls, bears, etc, likewise a Maple Leafs cup win would easily be the most coveted, adored and cherished title in Toronto and in Canada. Not even close. They would make sure the other teams in Toronto (MLB, NBA, CFL, etc) suck for 30 seasons each just to make sure the Maple Leafs win the stanley cup ONCE.

The problem with trying to compare will be the sheer amount of years. This is close to 2 lifetimes for the Cubs. Even if everything is the same for another team, no one will go as long as the Cubs did again in major professional sports. Sounds like Toronto might be the next "Cubs" though. :yeshrug:
