Well damn, I ain't gonna go this far :russ: But it should be clear by now that NXT is essentially high school/college ball... which by no means ensures an instantly great NBA career. You might be Jordan, or you might be Sam Bowie. It's not an instant shot to the top of the card soon as you hit the main roster. I think the only ones so far that got instant prominence have been Bianca, Sasha, Charlotte, and of course the Shield.

Others I can think of: Finn, KO, Nakamura, Paige, Asuka

While I disagree with some of yall about Vince the past 15 years being a better booker than HHH, These are the types of angles/promos that he completely outshines HHH in:

HHH would NEVER do this:

And its a fuccking shame because this roster nowadays is STACKED like a MF :snoop:

And say what you will but Vince did a WAAAAY better job with making new top guys. The equivalent of Punk in that segment would be Austin Theory, Solo, or Dom standing there but he's done nothing but shyt on them for the better part of two years.

not saying you wrong cuz
but segments like this happen because someone threw the show format in the trash that day and the show has to be speed-booked into a show-spanning single angle. This kinda booking can only be done like this when there's no other choice and the roster is full of people used to suddenly having nothing booked 2 hours before the cameras turn on. This current era can't improv like thatr.

I do wish they could artificially insert some of that Vince-era chaos into things. Definitely need to have more situations where they dedicate a show to getting someone/something over with the hard-sell. It's a lessening artform these days, especially as the other company uses it ineffectively so often it's hard to remember it being done right.

That said... the times they work have worked. Bronson Reed in the span of a single show went from huskiest harris to Big Belly; First Of His Name in one show. They just seem to rarely do it. One of these days we need a show with a fukking protagonist and write it that way.

Post-Mania needs a 'Bron Breakker' episode of RAW. Have him get screwed out of the IC title, fukk up the midcard heels on his way out of that tier and then win the #1 contendership to the title later that night in dominant fashion as some getback. A single-episode ascension of someone; to hell with the rest of the card. Hunter be afraid to do that shyt because he trying to make people happy. fukk alldat. Vince woulda made a whole Austin Theory arc if they'd let him - old man feared nothing but the feds. Not saying go back to Vince's way but Hunter need a dash of that fukkery to balance his cooking.

I think THAT is more what's missing. Some freneticism. Chaos. Yes it's great that they clearly plan things ahead and put some thought into stuff weeks, months out and love to show their work. Callbacks are great; foreshadowing is a narrative device long underutilized in pro wrestling.

But sometimes a nikka just want some shyt to go left. And it isn't that current regime can't do it... it just seems to have dried the fukk up since Jermaine vanished from our TVs.

Jacob Fatu need to get him a Smackdown booked entirely around him bodybagging folk. He could carry that easy and it's about time.

This is something I pointed out weeks ago. Vince knew how to sell a moment and make you want to see the weekly shows because anything could happen. We were getting world title matches on TV all the time. Top guys were constantly in segments with other top guys. There was a segment the week before WrestleMania XXIV and it was just all the guys coming out and talking about their upcoming matches, arguing over who would have the best match. That segment promoted four matches at once, and that led to a tag team main event featuring all those guys.

If something like what you posted happened now, Punk would just be in the ring by himself for ten minutes, or maybe backstage, then we would find out that the number one contender's match would take place next week. And you would have Cena, JBL, Batista, and Kane cut separate promos about said match without even wrestling. :troll:
