It’s not just that these people are stupid, can’t form coalitions, don’t care about basic political history etc. Four years later they still don’t get that Trump conned them. Which I suppose makes sense because Bernie conned them too and they don’t get it.
Saying “if Trump was smarter” is like saying “if the Joker wasn’t crazy.” This is who he is. He’s mentally unstable and a sociopathic narcissist. He’s also a classist - an elitist who largely views poor people as not victims but people who have chosen to be poor. He was never going to fight for them. He spent months complaining about unemployment benefits during a pandemic because he believed people were turning down jobs in order to milk the system and hurt his re-election chances. That’s the guy who was going to force republicans to hand out 2k?
Also why didn’t he force McConnell to do this before the election? It’s not far fetched to suggest he may have won the election if those checks had gone out in October. Why? Because that’s not who he is. A smart person would have realized that giving people money was the best shot at winning the election. Trump can’t get there because he doesn’t think that way.
