Does anyone take online classes? I'm hot right now. My professor took off points in my discussion board posts because I went over the word count. And I'm starting to think this is going to ruin my 4.0 so far based on calculations. Final grade is coming by the end of the week.

Do ya'll think that's fair to take off points because you went over the word count limit? I hit up the lady that runs the program and she seemed neutral about it and didn't want to get involved.

I was driving 85 mph in a 70 zone

Is it fair that I got a ticket for speeding?

Yeah but that's not really a fair analogy here. That's more safety based. I can understand if I went over without any substance to my posts, but I had substance and purposely went over to properly explain my stance. Didn't go over too much though.

Turns out this was dude's first time teaching an online course.

That's not fair. A warning would have been sufficient enough.

Yup. And as it turns out that was the difference between me getting a B+ and A-.

Needed a 37/40, (92.5%) on my final paper to get a 90% (A-) for the class. He gave me a 36/40 (90%) on my final paper so I finished the class with a 89.3% If he would have given me just one point back from those points he took off in the discussion board posts (or even the final paper) I would have an A-.

Talked to the lady that runs the program about it and she's neutral about it and basically felt bad that it would be the difference between B+ and A-.

Not really, it takes more skill to put more content in a paper using less words.

In the University of Maryland System, there's a word/paper requirement and if you don't follow it, the highest grade you can receive is a C

We're talking about discussion board answers. It's like a teacher penalizing you for talking too much during class participation. Yes he violated the rules, but reducing his overall grade is just unnecessary.

It just saying, it's obvious the word requirement was apart of the grading rubric :yeshrug: That's why he got penalized.
