Going back to school in Fall majoring in Statsistics after deciding Comp Sci wasn't where I want to do work. I gotta review 2 years of math classes. Anybody here a Stats major that can tell me what to focus to review from Algebra-ODE's?

I always thought about majoring in Stats because I always loved those classes but ended up doing finance.. You like it?

starting CS this semester. Im taking DECODING MEDIA, INTERNET: MASTERING THE BASICS, COMPUTER HARDWARE/SOFTWARE, FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPUTER SECURity (300 level course :lupe: ) any tips for me?

Those will all be easy af, the most important thing is to not underestimate the time commitment.

@Serious

Im thinking about doing a coursework masters in Computer Science so I can delay the real world, get better at programming and work on my start up. If I enter the real world instead I think I can make 100k. Am I crazy?

Even if I can get the MS for free?

Yes.

Let's look at a high level simplification. Let's say it takes two years to get your masters. Now you lost $100,000 in income per year (we will call this yearly income X) for a net loss of 200K. If getting a masters nets you X + $20,000 per year (this is being very generous; this gap would actually decrease over the years due to experience) it would take you 10 years to make up the difference . Now, if in that time frame you choose to get your Masters out of your own pocket, somewhere around 30-40k, you're still on the upside. Obviously I left our coft of living, inflation, taxes and so on.

Now, if you wish to to get a Masters in order to get your PhD, then by all means go ahead if your goal is to do research or teach . You need to jump on that early.

Hell
Last day on thecoli, it's been cool but I need to get some things together in real life and I have no idea what to do. I'm older and going back to find a better job, was a security guard a did light office work but now I need to change get, I'm getting g permanent banned as a request by the mods.

I swear as a man who never had direction I will say that those four years of college or whatever are the most important years of your life by far, it determines your future, your life with women, your social circle and everything else. If you let that pass you're in trouble.

Been real.

Did you do computer science undergrad?
You can eat pretty well in programming without a higher level degree. I mean, you might not make 100k out the gate, but depending on your masters program, you may wind up not having as much work experience as needed to get some of these positions.

Also, as far as moving to NYC or San Fran, what's your issue with moving, and why do you think you have to move?

You can always A) work on your startup on the side and B) grow your network of people who might want to contribute to your startup

@Liu Kang
Is there any chance a new sticky could be created for general queries related to any subject in school/college that someone would like to discuss? For example say I'm studying economics or global politics and there is a concept I have a question about or an answer that could be given really brief feedback on? Should I just post it in this thread instead?

Thanks

Those jobs are all 80/90 hours a week. If all I cared about was getting a job this wouldnt even be a decision. Im already absolutely certain I can make 100k out of undergrad.

If I go to grad school it will be because a program I am in for future business leaders/entrepreneurs in my area will basically allow me to be a funded entrepreneur for two years.

My issue with moving is A) my mom has ms, and B) Idk if im really ready for new york city. i hate the mono-culture that is silicon valley.
