In retrospect, was John Cena the MC Hammer of wrestling? Did we just hate just to hate and only realized it after everybody else ran with the blueprint and failed?

No. Once they put the belt on him, they stripped away everything that got him over, fed everyone who was over to him, and made sure nobody ever came out of a feud with him looking better than when the feud started with the possible exception of edge in 2006. That pattern has followed with him in every feud except Roman last year. If anything, his push was the precursor to what they’ve done the last 4-5 years with Roman. The blueprint of force feed a cardboard cutout baby face to the crowd while feeding the whole roster to him doesn’t work. Not entirely Cena’s fault, but he could have spoken up about stuff as well. A promotion with a clue would’ve booked him much more effectively.

I would argue that Blueprint had been in existence since Sammartino/Hogan too and thats just the northeast way of booking and people were only shocked by it cause they were used to the attiitude era whose booking was of circumstance but I feel ya
