Anyone got some really solid stock advice for a beginner?
That's kind of an open question. If you havne't done so already, first thing I'd do before investing is eliminate debt like credit cards and car payments.

Have you followed the general rule of thumb for investing priority?:

1. 401k up to the company match
2. Max out Roth
3. Max out 401k
4. Taxable Investing

Investopedia.com is a good source to read for a lot of questions. I'm no expert, but beginners, intermediates, advanced...investopedia has good articles for everyone.

I've heard about investopedia, right now I'm just researching.I have two credit cards, both have under $100, I have a car note, but I'm not delinquent or anything, I just have some income in my checking account I'm not doing anything with at the moment. If I can make an addition $100 a week, I'd be good. I'm thinking about this taking the place of a second job.

If it was me I'd take the extra money and pay off the car note. Can't argue with less debt. Or if you don't have an emergency fund I'd put in a high yield savings account.

Investing in an index fund in a Roth wouldn't be a bad way to go if you're determined to go the investment route.

I don't have any specific stock advice for you since it seems like this is a short term goal and thus, a short term trade. I'm a long term investor. I don't day trade.

I'll point you to this thread though: Boiler Room: The Official Stock Market Discussion

Lots of good stuff in there and guys who day trade/short term stock trade.
