:why:

5/10 brehs

Lemme just start off saying I never read the book this is based off. I don't fukk with Shakespeare at all

Finness seems like he's doing work acting in this one but at times the whole movie feels like one big vanity project for dude to show his acting chops. All the loud speeches and character moments screamed look at me I can act. No other real standout performances except maybe the mother.

The plot kind of loses me a little bit. Dude is a piece of shyt nobleman who hates the common people yet still fights for them, then he get's mad that they want him gone, only to betray his country. Like I don't even understand dudes motives really besides just being a petty overly proud shytty person. Looking back most of the characters in this flick are pretty unlikeable except the one Menenius dude who kills himself towards the end. I dunno this shyt was kind of a mess to me.

I remember looking at the Rotten Tomatoes rating for this flick a year ago like :whoo:should be piff but after watching it today, jesus christ :scust:. Don't get me wrong it's not all bad and there is a good movie somewhere here but I'll be lying if I said the fukking Shakespearean dialogue doesn't completely ruin this movie for me.

Ehh...I saw this a while back and it did nothing for me. Had a couple of good scenes but overall I don't understand what the director was trying to do with this...I did not like it, but it wasn't garbage....it was just...whatever.

I really really struggled to watch this. Despite having 2 really good actors, the material itself didn't translate well. I won't go in depth about it but it was no better than a 5/10 to me.

yeah the only retelling of a shakespeare flick set in a modern setting i fukk with is the 96 romeo and juliet, but thats another thread, but ill narrow down why, the flick is all over the place which is a good thing its an amalgam of all these other films ive seen but done in a way like "What If?" like we got the William Shakespeare version of a John Woo Movie, The Rocky Horror Picture show and purple rain, Not too mention the film creates its own world, so having to rely on trends and whats hip really doesnt matter here because this is a different world, the oil crisis never happened and cars are made to look as flamboyant as possible, gun fights to setlle disputes are legal but you'd have to go through the proper paper work to do so, theres all these layers i can get into but ill just say that I am a fan of that flick
