For me, I would've been about how the "gangsta" rap genre completely took over the game and basically ran the old school and empowerment set off the block. There were a lot of great talents and great albums in the early 90s, but what took over was those studio gangstas marketed to the suburbs. Even MC Hammer had a bandana and hydraulics in his videos.

I was big into Public Enemy and I was expecting this new era of civil rights activism. But, everything moved in the exact opposite direction.

I think about that story of Pac and his goons running Q-Tip off stage and that's literally what 90s hip hop was about.
