Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
I would not argue, as you did @DEAD7 , that the way we bread slaves here in America as opposed to importing them was more moral/less cruel or a logical conclusion reached by capitalists of their own volition.

They didn't stop importing slaves because it made the most economic sense, they did so because it was outlawed.

And in order to keep their free labor, that in the capitalist system meant maximum profits, they began to breed them.

Their hand was forced in that direction by law and greed.

…then what we’re discussing wasn’t a function of capitalism or the market at all but the result of government(intervention) prohibition on the way slavery was conducted around the world at the time.

:manny:the ism isn’t to blame.

So the government intervened to outlaw a terrible, racist, inhumane practice, and the capitalists adjusted in order to continue using cheap labor in order to produce a profit.

Seems like their capitalist motivations may still be to blame.

I believe globally slavery was the norm at that time... and any time before it... and i dont believe the practice stemmed from or was maintained solely due to "capitalist motivations".

The adjustment which made american slavery especially egregious(according to the pod) was brought about by state intervention.:manny:

Simply saying capitalism is to blame for everything that occurred remains incorrect to me.

I think we would have seen similar changes short term, and worse outcomes long term under a more collectivist ism... all other things equal.

You started off wrong, maybe you need to find another way to justify your position.

Slavery was not the norm around the time if the Founding if America. That's one of the reasons there was a sunset set to the practice of Slavery in The Constitution.

So, I wonder, since slavery wasn't the norm at the time. And the Founders did not want it to continue, why did it?

History of slavery - Wikipedia :francis:
Seemed pretty common breh...

Thats neither here nor there though, you haven't refuted my argument, unless you are suggesting greed cannot exist absent capitalism.:francis:

Simply saying greed is the reason why(which i agree with) doesnt denote a ism/system, it points to a human desire present wherever humans are. hence the practice dating back as far recorded history goes.

:picard: @ the number of slaves in communist China at the time... and :wow:@ the number of slaves allegedly in China today.

Cacs were gonna cac regardless IMO...:yeshrug:
