is one of the best slow burns of all time. The first Raw in May Paul Bearer said in he had a secret about the undertaker. He didn't say what that secret was until June 30th. We don't see Kane until October 5th. They went two months before we even know the secret and 3 before we see him. They built him up without ever showing him and it was believable when he finally made his debut, one of the most memorable debuts of all time. If they tried that now a days they would finish the the build-up, initial match, and blow off match all within a month. I've been watching 97 over and I'm up to KOTR, most of us watched 97 as it happened, but rewatching it makes you appreciate how good that year was even more. I feel bad for kids now a days, we all suffered through the bad years of wrestling only to be rewarded with 1997 in both companies, kids will never get that. If they're lucky maybe they will figure out how to book Roman correctly.

I think one of the reasons 97 was so good is you had some great minds at time (vince, Prichard, cornette, Russo, pat) being able to bounce ideas off each other and they were able to filter most of the bad ideas out.

GOATsso was the number two guy behind Vince and was basically untouchable in terms of creative control. Cornette deserves little credit, Prichard deserve little credit

I remember Paul Bearer mentioning Kane and those promos. I had my doubts due to the whole Black Scorpion debacle with Sting (the less I say about it the better). When the lights went out and that music hit as he walked out I was like :ohhh: when he ripped off the cell door :merchant: when he stood toe to toe with Taker and was as big as him :damn:.

It was also very relatable when Taker didn't want to fight him. If you have a younger brother you know moms tells you not to whip his ass, but he keeps habitually line-stepping until you have no choice but to :lolbron:

His build up and booking was strong that fans cheered for him while facing a PRIME, white hot stonecold for the WWF title in that 1st blood match. His character and costume design was a work of genius. Coolest shyt since prime Big Van Vader in the 80's with the steampunk wolly mammoth mask

I was terrified for Taker when Kane ripped that door off.

That's how well they hyped Kane, plus to see the mighty undertaker have to take a WTF is going on step back while Kane was standing in front of him was a major :dwillhuh:

Masterful storytelling back then.
And the crazy part is how they pulled that off, Cause I was terrified for Shawn and knew he stood no chance against the Undertaker's big evil ass.

Then they brought an even Bigger, More evil, Demonic Motherfukker:picard:

97 was the GOAT year in wrestling. It was basically the Attitude era before it got too slapstick cartoonish. :yeshrug:
i agree. i gave up on wrestling sometime after that...it just got to be too much to me..and they were on The Nashville Network :dahell:

just couldnt get into it anymore. no idea how i got back into it in 2009 :snoop:
