Just finished, thought it was pretty solid overall :ehh:. From an action standpoint, it's not on the level of say Warrior or Into the Badlands, but is pretty good compared to most shows and they come up with some creative scenes. Would say it's more comedic than serious drama, as it mostly has a light fun energy even when dealing with triads and crime. Humor was pretty hit or miss for me, but I liked the family bond/dynamics that played out over the course of the season. Great use of food throughout.

Michelle Yeoh was clearly the strongest actor among the cast, although Bruce and Charles have moments. It did keep me engaged to finish it over the weekend.

Thats what I liked about it the most....it was HILARIOUS. the action was good tho. I loved the family theme :blessed:

Wrapped the series up
  • Michelle Yeoh - She deserves so much better. She has 2-3 great scenes in this, like damn, she can really act, and she out classes everyone - but when they make her do horrible lines/unclear reasons for her decisions - it's so jarring.
    • Head of the Dragon, WTF
  • Bruce - I wanted them to kill him so bad. I hated his character. Such a punchable face. They tried to make him like ol boy in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once - but he can't act, and the writing wasn't there.
IMO, he had no redemption. And low key, his entire family left him, and he's basically back at square one, with a green Lambo
    • The improvisation sub plot - was basically Chekov's gun that never got fired.
  • Charles - Stoic killer, but falling apart. Sort of reminds me The Killer (Fincher, not J. Woo.)
    • Churros are Fried, not baked
      .
  • Pops - GANGSTA!
  • Korean BF - even worse comic relief than the main dude.
  • Elaine -
Most obvious double agent. And the Boxers WERE THE GOOD GUYS IN THIS.
  • Alexis - That weird type-A, Asian female character
  • John Cho - House - LOL, the whole thing
  • PRODUCT PLACEMENT - Longevity Condensed Milk, Lao Gan Ma, all the local East Asian LA spots, smh
  • The ending was some bull
Gywneth's Paltrow's husband was behind this. So maybe that's why they green lit this horrible script.

The action was good though. And the homies from the Martial Arts Movie Club got to do their thing again.

I get that it's an action comedy, but the themes were pretty heavy, yet they treated them poorly.

Man I love this show.

Michelle Yeoh deserved everything she can get man…. She really owns every scene she’s in.

Also this Charles dude is a future star man….. I almost wish he was Shang Chi but at minimum he needs to be a future villain to go against Simu

Not sure where they would have went from there.
Just binged it just to find out it's a one and done smh. I can only assume Taiwan hijinks with some reason to bring Bruce over for s2. Bruce was really the worst in this, at least I understood the pops motivation.
Reading it was critically acclaimed too. Netflix really gives no fukks. How about nurturing good shows instead of 20 mid shows a year...
