Show is still so dope. I was talking about my favourite shows with a majority Black cast/ Black creators and completely forgot about this.

I just realised that Special Ed has a cameo as the electrician in the scene where they were soundchecking the Special Ed performance

yea I saw the first couple episodes. it was aiird. nothing that I would go out of my way to watch. rebel is an annoying broad.

Facts man, I was pissed off and with John Singleton being behind it I thought it would be legit but nah. I can't rock with that agenda they trying to push. I don't like it one bit fam.

BET has scrapped plans for a second season of The Breaks.

The Viacom-owned cable network announced in April that the hip-hop drama would move from BET to VH1 for a second season. That will no longer happen, and the series has been canceled after its lone season on VH1.

The Breaks started as a back-door pilot on fellow Viacom cabler VH1. It was based on Dan Charnas' best-seller The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop. The book is considered one of the most comprehensive accounts of the history and business of hip-hop. Charnas documented the rise of the genre as a writer for The Source, the first rap magazine, and is a former record executive. His book spans 40 years of stories and was culled from more than 300 interviews with execs, entrepreneurs, hustlers and handlers.

The Breaks wrapped its eight-episode run in February, averaging about a million viewers per episode. Afton Williamson, Tristan Wilds, Melonie Diaz, Evan Handler and Gloria Reuben starred.

In April, BET announced that it had picked up The Breaks for a second season and cheerleading drama Hit the Floor for a fourth season, with the latter coming more than a year after its third season wrapped on VH1.

But with BET's recent pickups, the cabler no longer had a need for The Breaks. BET, which ranks as one of the six core brands that corporate parent Viacom is focusing on during its bid to revive the media giant, recently went straight to series with In Contempt, a procedural starring Erica Ash; The Quad; The Comedy Get Down; and Hit the Floor. Meanwhile, Being Mary Jane — its flagship scripted drama — will wrap its run with a two-hour series finale in 2018.

BET has canceled their plan to bring hip-hop drama The Breaks from VH1 to the network for a Season 2.

In April, the network first announced that BET would be picking up new seasons of both The Breaks and Hit The Floor, both of which originally aired on BET's Viacom sister network, VH1.

Hit The Floor is still set for the network, as well as a new season if HBCU drama The Quad and a legal drama starring Survivor's Remorse

After Teyana Taylor, who as a member of The Breaks' ensemble cast, was also cast in Hit the Floor, many questioned the future of the series.

The show had good ratings, was renewed but then was cancelled by BET without an explanation.

Damn, I didn't love the show but would have been nice to get a season two. That's 2.5 hip hop shows that just got the cold blooded axe (this, the get down, and vinyl - which sucked but seemed like it would've delved into the birth of hip hop)

I really liked the show. It was written and acted with a ton of care and sincerity. They deserved much better than getting shuffled, then cancelled.

The show was decent at best........I watched it for the culture, but we are being honest.......the writing on it was pretty uninspiring.

I loved this show to keep it real. The cast did a good job and it showed you some of the sneaky shyt that goes on in the music industry like Juggie giving the radio stations that brown paper bag

Sucks they canceled but who knows, maybe someone else will pick it up or a lot of the actors from the show will get other roles for new projects.

The Quad actually seems cool to me but seems like a chick show. I was gonna watch on the strength of them having that sexy actress Anika Noni Rose and the darkskin original Claire Kyle from My Wife and Kids who's all grown up now and looking badd. At the same time though, you're right and it can't be a better show then the breaks.

BET fukking up a good thing here I mean do people even watch being mary jane? BET had something with this one here.

people were waiting on the 2nd season. they drop it but keep "hit the floor?"

this is bringing back bad memories. it ranks right up there with the cancellations of south central, my brother & me, and smart guy. and also 2k sports getting shut out from making college hoops & NFL games.

its a shame that the show was still growing its following. I don't think its big enough for a petition, like when BET saved "the game".
