I’m sure there is plenty of behind the scenes negotiating going on between the team and his representatives to work out an exit that benefits everyone. The one year suspension buys them time to do so.

More than anything it questions his decision making, integrity, and mental toughness. He should already know that the media and league treat black men differently and will nail him to the cross. Case in point: Brett Farve. His story is already old news.
