I wouldn't say that necessarily. Depends on the circumstances but if it looks like they've taken even a small step backwards from last season then the Udoka decision is gonna look especially tough.
They already look worse defensively but it's too early to call, especially with Rob Williams out.
But no comment on them having the #1 offense in the league to start the season?
If the team does take a "small step backwards", why are you automatically ruling Mazzulla responsible for that? What ownership do you place on the players, and what about other teams naturally getting better?
And let's not act like the Celtics weren't one of the best teams in their conference for years before Udoka came on board.
Mazzulla has been at the Celtics since 2019 (years before Udoka arrived), is one of the smartest young minds in the game, has been an integral part in aiding the development of all on that squad, and establishing the culture that they have now.
