You really had to be there when this dropped. Instant classic. Sequenced perfectly and was a breath of fresh air. If I could tally the number of times I listened to certain rap albums this is def too 5. Had to burn a fresh copy cause the OG that came in a blue colored case I scratched. Didn’t realize the hidden bonus tracks till weeks after lol

I want to say AG too but something was missing. It’s a 4.7/5 to me
Vol. 1 is a Jay-Z classic at the very least. It’s better than the bolded for sure. Problem was it only had a few lows, but them lows were so damn low it brought the album down with it, lol. And AG is also better than the bolded as well.

Vol 1 suffered from too many chick songs. Messed up the pace

American Gangster on the cusp but the sequencing was off imo

Yeah, those were the songs I was referring to. Although, just keepin it a buck, I never had an issue with “Sunshine”, was just the video was corny to me. The MC Lyte and Alexander O’Neal sample along with The Fearless Four sample was dope to me, along with Babyface on the hook and a Foxy Brown verse was a nice touch, imo.

Now, “I Know What Girls Like”, was just:scusthov:.

Lyrical exercise would go on to become one of my go to tracks over time.
:ohlawd: Your flow is…brain on drugs/mines is rap on steroids
I lift every voice when I sing/My ability/Make yours look like an exercise in futility/Bring your squad/Biceps, Triceps, and Quads/We don't struggle with undeveloped muscles

Lost ninety two bricks, had to fall back
Knocked a nikka of his feet, but I crawled back
Had A1 credit, got more crack
From the first to the fifth, gave it all back
If I'm not a hustler what you call that?
This is before rap ('fore), this is all fact (fact)
I'll never change

I love these bars

Was listening to this on Spotify last night and was talking to my girl about the cultural significance of this around 9/11, how it introduced Kanye to the world, combined with Just Blaze's soul sampling and it also being near perfect lyrically.
:wow:

I almost feel bad pirating it as a teenager because I should have bought it. What a classic album by Jigga
