I did a search on the second picture and I am glad I did. I see he served in the USCT Minnesota. Minnesota | Activity 5.2: The Civil War, Firsthand | PBS LearningMedia

And.. I have been trying to find out more information on Slavery in Minnesota. I recently found two people listed on the 1870 Census who lived next door and in the household with one of my ancestors -- and I really think one may be one of my ancestors as well. They both were born in Minnesota -- one in 1800 and the other 1810.

I think they were sold into slavery and brought to Alabama.

Sort of related, but the Marine Corps has banned all members from displaying the confederate flag.

Dumb white & Dominican dudes are talking about “why are y’all trying to erase history” & “since when did the USMC get political?”

out of all the dudes I served it, this one c00n ass Dominican is the only one I personally know talking about “that’s a violation of freedom of speech” & trying to get that white acceptance. :mjlol:

all of the white dudes I served with were from the north & they were saying about time & they were trolling the dumb rednecks crying about it in the comment section on IG.

It's makes me proud to know that Kentucky sent out more colored troops per capita, and the second highest number numerically after Louisiana (which had at least two times the black population as Ky at the time).

"More than 24,000 Kentucky African American soldiers served in the war, which represents nearly one-third of the total number of Union soldiers from the state. Kentucky provided more black soldiers than any other state, save Louisiana. More men probably would have served if they had been allowed to enlist before the spring of 1864. However, President Lincoln’s delicate handling of the slaveholding border states delayed recruiting efforts in the commonwealth. Almost half of the United States Colored Troops (USCT) who enlisted from Kentucky were recruited, trained, and placed in infantry, artillery, and cavalry units at Camp Nelson in Jessamine County. Many of those who trained at Camp Nelson saw combat at Saltville, Virginia, the 1864 Nashville Campaign, the Petersburg/Richmond Campaign, and the Wilmington, North Carolina Campaign."
