The "binge watch all new episodes" culture is good for us, but bad overall

Movies and tv shows
Both is pure piff depending on the show. Shows for me on the week by week basis would be The Flash. Folks be in there speculating and comparing it to the comic book and how it compares to the prior version of the Flash. I come in there and catch details that I missed or didn't understand. I don't watch tv week by week unless it's the flash or shows like it.

Now binge watching, I do this with older shows (Oz & The Wire) because they have had a major influence on hip hop of the last +16 years. So knowing those references & the lines dropped on top of smileys & gifs dropped here I understand them better and can laugh along with the others. And I also grow an appreciation of my own. Speaking of binge watching I have yet to start on Supergirl, and Arrow & I haven't finished the Legends season either. I'm fukked when the next seasons start. :snoop:

This isn't a jab at the film room, but my time spent on Gamefaqs, NeoGAF, and reddit has made me hate discussion about tv shows and movies. The discussions are mostly dominated by perspectives from feminists, cynical "progressive" hipsters, and shippers and it just makes me:scust: especially when the writers start pandering to one of them. Releasing all the shows at once at the very least allows the studio or w/e to tell their story without outside interference.

:skip: I wasn't trying to say that like thecoli is a haven for real insightful discussion on tv. I just find it a little less iritating than the spots I usually go to.

OP complaining about the amount of posts in a thread? :dahell:

nah, The Coli is reflective of society tho. If a thread is poppin on here it's usually because the show is generating a lot of interest in the general society, hence why I mentioned water cooler talk.

I'm just saying there are pros and cons with this binging shyt. Imagine if all 6 seasons of Game of Thrones dropped at once. shyt would kill any anticipation or discussion related tot he series.

Look, I love Netflix as much as the next man and I love the fact I can binge watch a whole series when it drops but it completely kills the discussion.

Look at the threads on here for Netflix shows... they're like a quarter as active as shows on regular channels. I don't care what folks say, hype and watercooler talk adds to a show. Weekly anticipation ADDS to a shows legacy.

What do you guys think?

Co-sign. I been saying this since the Marvel/Netflix shows were announced, if not before that.

The folks who make the opposite argument that are in favor of binge-watching all at once when it premieres, just make me :mindblown:. If that's how you feel, what's wrong with binge-watching after the season ends. It won't make a difference to you.:stopitslime:

I don't mind binge watching but The Coli threads on these shows are damn near as entertaining as the shows themselves. And like someone else pointed out, if people do binge watch after the fact they can go browse the old threads to experience what it was like to watch it live.

Fred.
What I think would work is when a new season drops on Netflix or whatever, several new threads should be created and the season broken into episodes.

For example OITNB S4 Eps 1-3 is a thread, then eps 4-6 is another thread and so on. That way people don't have to finish an entire season before entering a thread to talk about episode 2 and risk having the finale or a character death spoiled for them.

but 95% of TV is still weekly.. the 5% for Netflix/Amazon doesn't take that much away..
Granted those 13 episode show which show 13 weeks straight with no breaks is slightly different but its still weekly.. People become too busy they forced themselves to DVR it and binge.
First time I binged was smallville season 4... had about 6 episodes on the dvr cause I was busy those weeks and couldn't watch live or right after .. and I fell in love with the 3-4 episode binge

problem isn't weekly shows or binges .. its just people don't talk anymore..

Binge >>> Schedule

Some of y'all just seem incapable of properly pacing your binge. Cats talking bout they can't remember shyt during a binge. Easier to remember something from 2 hours ago rather than 2 weeks ago.
naw breh im not saying i cant remember shyt during the binge im saying if i binge season 1 of a show in 2 days,by the time season 2 starts a whole year later i forget most of what happened

its easier for me to retain information if im letting each episode marinate for a week before watching the next episode

the discussions we have during the week between episodes also helps with stuff i mightve missed or a perspective that didnt cross my mind

like with Game of Thrones,I watch it live every week except for season 2.Thats the only season i waited til it was over and watched the whole thing in 2 days

i can remember mostly everything thats happened in the show except for season 2 because i ran thru it so fast and didnt let the episodes marinate
