The "binge watch all new episodes" culture is good for us, but bad overall

Look, I love Netflix as much as the next man and I love the fact I can binge watch a whole series when it drops but it completely kills the discussion.

Look at the threads on here for Netflix shows... they're like a quarter as active as shows on regular channels. I don't care what folks say, hype and watercooler talk adds to a show. Weekly anticipation ADDS to a shows legacy.

What do you guys think?

Co-sign. I been saying this since the Marvel/Netflix shows were announced, if not before that.

The folks who make the opposite argument that are in favor of binge-watching all at once when it premieres, just make me :mindblown:. If that's how you feel, what's wrong with binge-watching after the season ends. It won't make a difference to you.:stopitslime:

That's what I do with Game Of Thrones, I hate having to wait from week to week for new episodes.

It's really hard staying spoiler free though, so I'm not surprised more people don't do it. Like with Empire I have to watch that weekly because I know everybody around me is going to be talking about the latest episode after it airs, and it's impossible to avoid it.

I personally can't binge watch. If it's an hour long show, I can do 2 shows, maybe 3 shows(if it's great like Breaking Bad)....other than that, I just watch at my own pace.

It's good that they're there at my convenience.

Only shows I've ever cared about discussion were Fargo and Breaking Bad

I like both methods ,but i geuss i would give the edge to week to week stuff cause i like going into threads and speculating on what's gonna happen next. particulary flash and GoT.

Yes. And not only that, when I am late and binge watching a show to catch up. I like to go into old threads and read the posts as if I was watching it live. I did that with Game of Thrones and Dexter. It's clutch because by that point I can't really talk about it with anyone in real life.

I think surface level, water cooler discussion is bad for viewers over all. We never really analyse what were looking at and give things way more credit than they deserve. I loved lost when it aired, it was an event but looking back the story was unsatisfying.

Networks loosing their ability to string us along for ratings will force them to make better stories with less filler.

Even with netflix there are probably only 10 good shows on TV.

with all that being said..... The Game of thrones thread >*

This. When I'm catching up on a current show or watching through an older show, I don't really binge-watch at all. I watch at a scheduled pace.

I might watch 1 or 2 episodes a day/night or if I'm watching through a show at a slower pace, I might watch 3 or 4 epsiodes a week.

Having shows drop week by week is an old format so networks could get more ad revenue and extend their seasons. It's not really necessary for something online like Netflix at all.

If people had the choice to watch any show weeks by week or have it all at once when they want they'll usually choice the latter. The ability to control the content in that manner trumps discussion and living at the hands of the networks air dates.

So really all you're saying is you want conversations on the coli to be longer, but since it's on Netflix the conversation won't last long and you don't like that
I feel the same. :mjcry:
I like discussing shyt on here with the brehs but my schedule/lifestyle doesn't allow me to bing watch anything, I still haven't finished Daredevil! Shyt, I fall behind on some shows that are week to week (just finished Better Call Saul like a week ago). It sucks for me but hey I chalk it up to 'you can't have it all'.
