Pippen proved that he could lead a team. The year without Jordan, he lead his team (55 wins) in 5 different categories. Bird has never done it without the help of SEVERAL HOFers. You will have more of an argument with Bron
You don't win three consecutive titles by yourself! The Bulls were a three-time defending championship team. It's not far-fetched that Pippen was able to lead them to Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Horace Grant made the All-Defensive team 4 times, including one during the first three-peat, which was secured by his last second block in the NBA finals.
Grant was an All-Star, Kukoc was a double-digit scorer his Rookie year and hit a game-winning shot at the buzzer against the Knicks in the playoffs. Kukoc was the team's third leading scorer during the 2nd three-peat run, in addition to being the NBA's 6th man of the year. In addition, that 93-94 roster had four 7-footers, Bill Cartwright (7-1), Luc Longley (7-2), Bill Wennigton (7-0), Will Perdue (7-0). Granted, none of them were remotely close to All-Stars, but they were huge bodies that could be used to clog the lanes and give up 20 fouls on opposing Centers.
And like you mentioned, Scottie Pippen was playing out of his mind.
However, Jordan was at his peak during that time and had Pippen been the one to retire, you best believe Jordan puts away that Knick team without Pippen - so suggest otherwise is plain stupidity.
Jordan was busy torching those Piston teams in the playoffs, while Pippen was busy sitting out with Migraines and Horace Grant was consistently getting his glasses slapped off his face by Lambeer and Rodman. Jordan had to wait for Pippen and Grant to catch up, before the Bulls could win a title. And he could not win it all, without a Championship, supporting cast. That Championship supporting cast remained intact during Jordan's first retirement.
Pippen IS NOT BETTER than Bird! He plays better defense, but he's not a better all-round player.
