The average player is more talented now, but they leverage that talent spamming 3s instead of spamming footwork and other skill sets

The average player has a wider array of skills. But they have less mastery of each skill.

Its like the they score a B- in every category, When back in that day players would have a mixture of A+ and F's.

Also we underrate the ability of old school players to spam 3's. They were making long 2's consistently, it would take one offseason of work for them to adjust to the modern game. if they were still in their prime today. Its like MJ for example, He wasn't shooting 10% from deep. His career average was just under 33%. Lebron Career 3pt% is 34%.

Definition of Jack of all trades, master of none. I also don't believe that the average player has a wider array of skills, that's just the default talking point when people are asked why they think players today are better than past players.

I think the average player shoots 3s better but I'm still not convinced they are more skilled. I think a lot of 90s and 00s players had to play very specific roles to make their teams, so you weren't going to see certain guys show their bag. All of the movement and space of today's era means more possessions/shots available, so your average player has more opportunity to show their game.

Also, players of today are allowed to move with the ball in ways that players in the 90s/00s couldn't, but that's for another topic.

The average player is a better shooter and that's where it ends. Now that is probably the most valuable skill in basketball, so I'll give them that
Better shooter because of talent or a .more emphasis on the shot?

Definitely would say they're more than. Definitely faster and more athletic tho.

As a post player, ex slasher / wing. I'd say great post moved are equal to great crossovers. ZBo and Kevin McHale would be unstoppable with no hops nowadays.

The average player today is more skilled than superstars in the ‘90s. :russ:

No-names are capable of stuff like this nowadays.
