The Austin Powers movies aged like shyt

Ive never felt dumb about my sense of humor until i attempted to rewatch an austin powers movie

i was young-ish when they came out and i found them, for the most part, funny.

a few months back the girl i was dating at the time threw one on after i said i didnt care what we watched and i had to force her to turn it off about 20 minutes in. and thats something i never do. i can usually just tune out whats on if im not interested and let whoever im with enjoy it..but it was so fukking bad that i literally couldnt stand it

does anyone here still find them amusing?

Watched the first two a few weeks ago AWFUL films. The only thing good about the franchise is seeing a young Elizabeth Hurley

Not that the first one is any good, but I remember hating the 2nd one as soon as I saw it, because of the way it "undid" the end of the original movie.

i used to watch goldmember over & over as a kid, like i had the lines memorized. i thought it was the funniest movie ever.

i haven’t watched it in a few years but i remember only laughing a few times through the movie the last time. the 1st one wasn’t as funny as i thought either.

The second one was on TV a month ago and decided to watch it for the first time in over a decade and yeah it wasn't as funny as I thought when it first came out where I thought it was one of the funniest ever. And it wasn't even dumb funny because I can still watch the first Ace Ventura and be entertained and laugh at that, but that second Austin Powers was just dumb dumb.

They’re mostly corny and dated however, I still find this scene hilarious. Think Mike Meyers improvised the whole thing too

A lot of these over the top comedies don’t age well. The spoof films, Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller Wild character heavy Films...

The first one was actually intriguing with all the references to the time period. that shyt was kind of cool. but the movie itself was dumb as shyt.

Part 2 and 3 made bank though. I remember them being a big fukking deal when they came out.

Kinda funny how Goldmember broke records and then Myers just sort of vanished from the face of the earth. Obv I remember he did the Shreks and The Love Guru which flopped, but I'm shocked the studio didn't rush to try to get a part 4 out.

Feels like if they ever were to do a part 4 it'd be like Dumb and Dumber 2 where it will be a moderate hit at the box office, but not what it would have been had it come out during the main actor's prime and peak in popularity.
