It's not really a defect but it's a queestionable thing to make a character notable one at that suddenly gay when in the comics and cartoons, he's NOT!

I mean is it the agenda or a way to appeal to gay people and why not just make him the same way he is in the comics, Mike **** isnt a gay nerd...

I wouldnt care if he was bi-sexual horndog who likes to fukk everything in sight but a full blown gay guy, black guy at that, who made that decision?!?!?

It serves to show that there wouldn't be a connection between him and Felicity. He has no other motives other than doing the right thing, as opposed to a straight character possibly doing things to get in Felicity's draws. Plus, gay people exist in real life...so...idk, nobody born after the 40's is really mad about seeing a gay black man on television because they, too, also exist in the real world.
As far as him not being gay in the comics It's 2015 moving into 2016, all these tv and movie adaptions are straying away from the source material. Change happens, it's life, we'll all be okay and AIDS-free, no amount of gay characters on television is gonna change that.
Besides, all them straight suits been running the company into the ground
