This will probably help rural areas the most, and while rural areas DO need help, it's not going to do as much for inner-city areas. But it's still a nice gesture.
The more time I've spent studying education systems, the more I've felt that adequate teacher pay is more of a basic requirement than it is a solution. Paying teachers an adequate wage should be done, but it's not going to fix anything until we make some major structural changes in our schools and school systems.
I'd highly recommend "The Shame of our Nation" by Jonathan Kozol and "The Schools Our Children Deserve" by Alfie Kohn as good overviews of what I see as the two largest problems. Both books are about 20 years old and sadly the issues they discuss have only gotten worse during that time.
NOPE. make it cost of living adjusted to $60k because why would you work in philadelphia for $60k when you can be in a lower cost of living state/area for the same $60k
