any cheap on this site you recommend. Are these thing durable?

Do i stick my flashdrive in it and it just play it?

I wouldn't recommend any of those because I haven't used or heard of them. Those things are so hit and miss, but if you want to take the chance for 40-50 bucks, you should be straight. With all the stuff out there, playing media files is pretty standard stuff. I'd suggest a western digital live TV or a Pivos Xios DS. WDTV is much better for "pick up and use" if you're not down for tinkering and is said to play everything you can throw at it.

I have a Pivos, so I can give you more info. The benefit of the it is that it can be flashed to use XBMC (which is probably the GOAT media center software). It's a below average Android box natively, so if you're not down to flash, don't get it. It's almost exactly like flashing Android ROMs which, while very easy, isn't for everyone. It's still being polished for XBMC, but for typical playback, it's stable as a rock. I've had mine for about a month and a half and I'm a version behind and it plays perfectly with all my different files. It's a great bedroom box for the price. If I would have known how simple/easy playing stuff could be without the PS3, I would have got one of these YEARS ago.

You can play files off of the drives for both of these, but the benefit of these boxes is that you can access your entire collection across your network. If I were you and had a desktop computer, I'd share all of my media across my network.
