SINY!!
I can dig it.

I wouldn't mind playing a flat fee a month.

I wonder if any artist tried dropping an album where you can't by individual tracks?

Like the album was one long ass song and you couldn't skip it because it was one track.

Like a vinyl :ohhh:

Jay-Z attempted this with the American Gangster album. He refused to let tracks be sold individually.....so he had it pulled from iTunes. That's the closest I can recall

I got a great way to make money off of music. Give it away free and make money off of ads.

Think about it. An artist could have a website where they would have all their music. New singles would be unavailable to download but free to listen to. That's mad hits because the website would be the only place to hear it. Ads on the site. Pandora/radio type ads every few songs. When the album drops make it available to download free and you could have ads packaged in with the rar file and maybe even have ads attached to the end of songs like interludes. Or even during the song like instead of "Dramatic" it could be like "Pepsi".

It might be annoying for us but I'm looking at it from the music industry's end if they wanna make money.

They could even press 1,000 "limited edition" CDs and people could pay $25 to have one of the few hard copies in the world.

You gotta be innovative. If you made conestoga wagons back in the day when Henry Ford rolled out his first automobile you had to adjust or get left behind.

Congratulations, you just invented streaming music.

Unfortunately:

1. It's been invented already.

2. People can easily rip streaming music from your website.

3. Without radio or other major label resources, who's gonna know about your site to begin with?

I still won't pay for it. You'd have to destroy the internet for me to start paying again.

Yep
For years i overpaid for albums of crap with maybe 1-2 decent tracks on it,and these record companies took the the lion share of those profits, now they crying poor and know there isnt a thing they can do,i have no sympathy...

Negativity (Kayfabe)
2 things...

A while ago; I was searching for the purpose of deluxe CDs (that's a whole 'nother thread) and came across a (opinion) reason for the decline in record sales. A poster suggested that it's the evolution of media. (I'm loosely quoting--it was weeks ago)

When the 8 track came out, you already had the vinyl, but, needed the 8 track to play in the car. The cassette came out, you had to have it, cause you can't play a 8 track in a Walkman. The CD drops, you can't play a cassette in your car's stereo system.

They were able to get people to also purchase albums they already had in older mediums. Now, you can buy it digitally and take it everywhere (phone, mp3 player, car) or buy the CD and convert it to digital.

Second...

The record label (all my opinion) is gonna die and just become the media company. They're already makin' artist sign 360 deals. Most these guys are onyl selling singles. They just need to sign em up for what ever package they can provide. If a dude is gonna just have hits, don't sign him for 4 albums. Have him sign a deal for a couple of 4 song EPs and eat off that and shows.

Skimmed through it, it sounds like he's talking about paying for radio which is what I imagine this concept would amount to

There was some albums that requested this of itunes... besides this guy acts like u can't buy a whole album on iTunes.... being able to purchase individual tracks works well for popular music the most anyway considering that they are usually not great all the way through. It def beats the days when u bought a whole album and there were only 4 good songs.

The record labels are just getting theirs for years of stealing from artists. These are the same guys who want to reneg on reverting rights to artists after their claim to them expires. I don't feel sorry for em.
