I'm assuming growth, development, and security. Kagame has brought all of that, as far as I know. 35 year old young lady would probably stop some of that and may be influenced by foreign entities (in a bad way).
Ok cool but there got to be a more subtle way of handle the situation. I cool with pragmatic approach when it come to African leader trying to do what best for there country but I feel he going overboard with the way he handle her and her family.

Nigeria is home to highest number of very poor people in the world, says Theresa May

Theresa May, prime minister of the United Kingdom, says Nigeria is home to the highest number of “very poor people” in the world.

Speaking in Cape Town, South Africa, on Tuesday, May said Africa is home to a majority of the world’s fragile states, and a quarter of the world’s displaced people.

She added that Africa has the highest number of poor people in the world, stating that 87 million Nigerians were living below the poverty line of $1 and 90 cents per day.

“Much of Nigeria is thriving, with many individuals enjoying the fruits of a resurgent economy, yet 87 million Nigerians live below $1 and 90 cents a day, making it home to more very poor people than any other nation in the world,” the UK prime minister said.

In June, the Brookings Institution named Nigeria the poverty capital of the world, overtaking India, a country with a total population of over 1.3 billion people.

At the time, the Nigerian government said Nigerians should dismiss the report, considering the fact that it was compiled when the country was in the throes of its worst economic recession in 29 years.

May said achieving inclusive growth is a challenge across the world, adding that Africa needs to create 50,000 new jobs per day to keep employment rate at its current level till 2035.

The prime minister said she wants the UK to become the biggest G-7 investor in Africa by 2022, building around shared prosperity and shared security.

“I am unashamed about the need to ensure that our aid program works for the UK,” May said, adding that a healthy African economy is good news for the UK.

“Today I am committing that our development spending will not only combat extreme poverty, but at the same time tackle global challenges and support our own national interest.”

“It is in the world’s interest to see that those jobs are created, to tackle the causes and symptoms of extremism and instability, to deal with migration flows and to encourage clean growth,” she added.

The 61-year-old said the UK is planning to sign a deal with Kenya to ensure the repatriation of stolen Kenyan funds stuck in the UK.

The UK has one of the biggest overseas aid programmes in the world, expending $18 billion in 2017 alone.

May will be visiting Nigeria later this week

More than India and China? Who have more than 1.3 billion people each? :stopitslime:

Russia is in talks with Eritrea to set up a logistics center at one of the North African country's seaports, Russian news agencies cited Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as saying on August 31.

Eritrea occupies a strategically significant location on the Red Sea across from the Arabian Peninsula on a major shipping route between Europe and Asia.

Lavrov did not specify where the center would be located, but he said the project would be aimed at developing bilateral trade in agriculture and mining as well as helping Eritrea develop its transportation and energy infrastructure.

"A negotiation process is under way regarding the creation of a logistics center at one of the ports in Eritrea to boost our bilateral
trade," Lavrov was quoted as saying by Interfax, after talks with his Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh in the Russia resort city of Sochi.

Lavrov said the center will advance "promising joint projects involving shipments to Eritrea of specific transport agricultural equipment," as well as help Russian businesses establish contacts in the country, Interfax reported.

The Kremlin will be encouraging Russian companies to take part in African projects, including building regional transportation corridors and cross-border pipelines, he said, adding that the Eritrea region presents "excellent opportunities" for "economic integration" with Russia.

Russia has been pursuing closer ties with a number of African countries in recent months, including signing a military cooperation with the Central African Republic and developing closer military relations with Egypt.

The negotiations with Eritrea also come as Moscow is beefing up its naval presence in the nearby Mediterranean Sea, where Russian forces are backing Syria's government in a seven-year civil war against Sunni rebels.

Mozambique and China plan coastal shipping port in Chongoene

3 September 2018

About US$3 billion is to be invested in the construction of a coastal shipping (cabotage) port at Chongoene in Mozambique and connecting rail lines with the Limpopo Corridor in Macarretane as well as extensions to structuring projects such as the heavy sands of Chibuto, in Gaza province and Jangamo in Inhambane province, Mozambican daily newspaper Noticias reported.

The daily newspaper quotes Leonardo Simão, chairman of Muyaque’s board of directors, who said in Beijing, where he took part in the China/Mozambique Business Forum, that there is already a partnership with China Railways International Group to bring the project to fruition.

Following the preliminary assessment, the two sides are currently discussing details to move forward to detailed studies that should determine the definitive costs, the time of construction and the return on investment.

The idea is that in addition to the port a railway and branchlines linking Inharrime and Chibuto should be built, because of the heavy sand projects, which alone helps to make the initiative viable.

According to Simão, there are other activities that can be made feasible because of the port and railway in areas such as agriculture, forestry and livestock.

Once the studies are completed, according to the source, they will be submitted to the government of Mozambique for a final decision. (macauhub)
