Well that sucks. Horror as a genre has given us some gems and the Oscars aren't really honoring films if they're excluding an entire category of movies like that. But I think you're right, that's what is going on here.

It’s why the studio said silence of the lambs was a “thriller” so it wouldn’t turn the academy off.
