None of it makes sense and it shouldn't even be a debate. It's almost like bizzaro world when I hear these discussions. :dwillhuh:

$80k can probably take care of a family in a number of places, but you on a shoestring budget. Healthcare, 401k, emergency fund, car maintenance, home repairs, mortgage, kid's expenses, and vacations.

Are the women who want the man to pay all the bills ok with an average life or do they want a luxury life? Would they be happy with a regular house, 8 yr old Honda, and 2 vacations a year? Because that's the reality of a family living on a single income in most cases. If they want the luxury life, the man has to be making $250k minimum, and that type of job doesn't grow on trees.

I don't think it's that deep

It's the day time talk tv convo for the most boring people you'll ever meet, whether they in a relationship or not.

Who is making the financial decisions in the relationship, and are they in charge of spending?
The 50/50 debate is meaningless in the context of this thread 'cause the 50/50 debate is a major conversation for people in the dating market.
Finances are going to get shared in a marriage in some way. I think spouses make that decision because of tax filings.
As a tax strategy for married people, the 50/50 debate has different uses than for single people: married couples might want to maximize their returns individually or take advantage of certain tax advantages filing jointly. Those types of choices aren't available to single people going 50/50 on dates.

I think the 50/50 debate is stupid for single people making under $75K individually. Two people dating making $80K at similar salaries as an official couple filing individual returns makes the 50/50 debate valid. Same for married couples.

...if you making less than $75K as a single person complaining about 50/50, you hustlin' backwards.
If you makin' more than $75K as a single person complainin' 'bout 50/50, you need to check your spending.

Who is making the financial decisions in the relationship, and are they in charge of the spending?
